Welcome to Dorchester and the 8th Annual Donnybrook Fiddle and Step Dance Competition
Have you ever wondered what happens in a "fiddle park"? Are those stories of all night jam sessions really true? Why not join us this coming civic long weekend and find out for yourself! The Donnybrook Fiddle and Step Dance Competition is a non-profit organization that adheres to one simple rule the preservation of old time Canadian Fiddling and Step Dancing.
This is accomplished in atmosphere that transcends the generations by sharing the love for this musical genre. In many ways this weekend is reminiscent of friendly gatherings of neighbours and relatives, long before the time of satellite TV, computers, iPods and text messaging.
Come out to the village of Dorchester and enjoy a piece of the 'simple life' and experience some exceptional fiddling and stepping!
It all starts Thursday at 11:00am!
2010 was another great year for the Donnybrook Fiddle and Step Dance Competition. We were fortunate enough to have a great crew of judges join us. They gave us diversity and travelled from various parts of this great province. Greg Williams gave his own personal stamp to the role of Master of Ceremonies showing his unique sense of humour to the position and was able to find common ground with the competitors. Jake Charron and Shane Cook graced our stage as house pianist and house fiddler.
2011 promises as much fun, friendliness and sense of family as all of the past competitions have delivered. Hopefully by the time you arrive - we will have completed this year's task of moving a couple of hydro poles and expanding the access to water and hydro. The dedication of the volunteers of the North Dorchester Agricultural Society is evident in their constant improvement and upkeep of the grounds and facilities.
Our continued success is due only to the tremendous support that we receive from the village of Dorchester and the sponsors that give so generously to this event. It is a collaborative effort second to none, that includes the volunteers, local businesses, service clubs, local government, the Dorchester Community Church and of course all of the competitors, spectators and campers that continue to return year after year.
If you plan on competing in the Grass Roots class this year, be sure to check out the new list of tunes on our Challenges Page! As well, step over to the Admission Page as we have lowered the Kick-Off Concert pricing to encourage you to join us! Lastly, the Results Page now contains our photo gallery - it's quite possible you'll find some faces that look familiar!
Thanks for being a part of our weekend!
